Audio Design offers cutting edge technology to provide digital
audio restoration among its many services. This process is particularly
useful to attorneys, private investigators and members of public
law enforcement agencies by "cleaning up" seemingly unusable or inaudible
audio recordings to be submitted as evidence. It is also commonly used
to clean up crackles and pops from vinyl recordings while still preserving
the sonic quality of the original recording for archival purposes.
Listed below are a few of
the processes, services and rates
involved in what has become more commonly referred to as "Forensic Audio Restoration".
Enhancement-
In many cases the sound quality of audio evidence can be very poor, sometimes
to the extent that the recordings seem to be completely useless. If
your audio evidence is tainted with noise (clicks, pops, hum, static,
etc.) or unwanted sounds, (music, traffic, etc.) send it to us for processing.
Our state of the art digital enhancement systems can remove or diminish
audio blemishes making speech or other recorded evidence intelligible
and ready for legal proceedings. Any audio source can be enhanced. We
receive numerous formats for enhancement including standard cassettes,
micro cassettes, and video tapes containing poorly recorded audio tracks.
The enhanced audio is then transferred to a separate standard audio cassettes,
DAT, or compact discs, as desired by submitting party.

Analysis- All audio evidence will be subjected to critical and
careful listening. Waveform and spectrum analysis will be employed
to determine if the recorded evidence is what it purports to be. Careful
analysis can determine if the original recording was stopped, restarted
or paused during the recording. We can also determine if there are timing
inconsistencies regarding a particular sequence of events. Other processes
would include sound identification (i.e.- background noises such as motors,
dishwashers, water, traffic, etc.) and in some cases, voice recognition
and/or comparison. A written detailed report will be provided upon request
supporting and explaining our conclusions.
Transcriptions-
We will provide certified transcripts as well as review existing transcripts
to check for omissions or errors. Our advanced technology allows us
to analyze every word and sound individually. Even after being enhanced,
some recordings are very difficult to hear. Our world-class monitors
and acoustically controlled listening environment often enables us to
generate more accurate and complete written transcriptions of recordings
where others have been unable to accomplish due to poorly recorded or low-level
audio.
